Schaduw noch prooi

Program note :

Just like a number of my other compositions Schaduw noch prooi is a series of sections (musical objects) that, because they are repeated, aim at a certain independence in relation to the whole. This composition, however, is characterised by the fact that each section, irrespective of either being independent or being a part of a bigger segment, covers a space-like surface that has been laid out with section I. Without leaving its place this composition is in search of its way forward in a vertical direction and is towering high along floors, corridors and landings (bridges) and in movements that go back and forth. The concept of ‘height’ (i.e. duration) can only be mentioned from the observer’s point of view as far as he can see the building reflected on a horizontal (water)surface, the horizon of which has the shape of a subjective border that cannot be measured (…).
